About Zazen

Come home to yourself
Find ease in the midst of the city

Zazen is home to a community of practitioners committed to supporting holistic wellness and holding a common space for interfaith practice and inquiry. We’re gathered together in practice, creating an opening for listening and responding to the deeper needs of each other, our clients, and broader community. Our practices are centered around the values of presence, care, gratitude, community, and mastery of craft. We offer various modalities for holistic healing and wellness including massage and bodywork, acupuncture, yoga, talk therapy, somatics, and floatation therapy. We hold daily meditation, practice groups, and teachings from various traditions, including retreat offerings at our retreat center in Mendocino County. As an organization, we operate with a commitment to community, meaningful work, sustainability, living wages, and intentional and compassionate practice.

Community

Zazen aims to cultivate community through shared practices, deep listening, and mutual care with our staff and the public. We do this by building relationships that facilitate healing for all who pass through our doors. Zazen also offers daily meditation, daily community acupuncture, and hosts teachers from different traditions to practice together to foster connection in the broader community. We prioritize making our services and practices affordable, available and open to all regardless of circumstance, through our membership program and offerings that are free, donation-based or sliding scale.

Sustainability and Living Wage

Since its conception, Zazen has been exploring both how to provide its staff with a living wage while being a sustainable business: socially, environmentally, and financially. Zazen always prioritizes an ethical approach to business which values its people and is mindful of its impact on the planet and and on the social environment.

Meaningful Work

Zazen was founded as a wellness cooperative to create a space where holistic health practitioners could share their practices of deep care in a supportive community. Over the last six years, Zazen has supported and encouraged practitioners to deepen the craft of their practice and pursue a livelihood of meaning and service, as a means of personal growth and a gift to those we serve. We cultivate our disciplines and relations with our clients and each other as meaningful practice and craft, to offer its fullest expression for the public and respond to the deeper needs of our clients and community.

Intentional and Compassionate Practice

Beyond our services and offerings, we are exploring different ways of organizing ourselves and relating to clients with intention and compassion. We organize with deep care in our practices around areas such as supporting the staff's changing needs, growth, and livelihood, creating an open, supportive, and learning culture, making decisions, discussing conflicts, management and fair pricing.
