Chinese Medical Services
While acupuncture is the most popular form of Chinese medicine in the west, it is only one of many different modalities. At Zazen, when a patient needs more than just acupuncture, we are able to provide the following services for better health outcomes.
Acupuncture is the practice of inserting hair-thin needles into specific points in the body in order to effect change. It is based on the Chinese theory that there are meridians, much like blood vessels, that carry energy or "qi" all over the body. With the needles, we can access the qi and change how it is flowing. If it is stuck, we can move it. If there isn't enough energy, we can increase it. If there is too much, we can decrease it. This therapy helps the body find its natural homeostasis.
Dried mugwort is burned over specific points or areas of the body in order to warm the area and supplement the body's energy.
We use fire to suction glass cups to different areas of the body, most commonly the back. This practice releases stagnation from tissues and provides relief from painful tension. It is also really effective for treating a cold or flu virus when it's in the early stages.
Gua Sha (Scraping Method)
The scraping method is used, similarly to cupping, to pull stagnant tissue and blood from the body, and also to nip a cold or flu in the bud.
Chinese herbal formulas have withstood the test of centuries of observed usage. The ancient physicians combined herbs in very sophisticated ways to increase effectiveness and decrease side effects. Adding Chinese formulas to your treatment plan can significantly decrease your healing time.
